#21: Ol' Yellers

Download playlist here.

In my opinion, the best parts of music are passionate, emotional outbursts. You know, those few bars in your favorite song that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Sometimes those few bars are expanded into entire songs, albums or careers. This week, I pieced together a compilation of some great, passionate, and yell-filled performances. Whether it's in blues, gospel, soul, funk, or early rock uncontrollable emotion will find it's way into your ears. This list includes some classics from Etta James, Otis Redding, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Cab Calloway, and Howlin' Wolf. But I snuck in a few tunes you might not know as well from Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Big Mama Thornton, Wanda Jackson, and The Hightower Brothers. Please enjoy and please play at the highest possible volume.

1. Hound Dog - Big Mama Thornton
2. St. James Infirmary - Cab Calloway
3. Up Above My Head - Sister Rosetta Tharpe
4. Trust In Me - Etta James
5. Finally Made It In - Hightower Brothers
6. Alligator Wine - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
7. Moanin' At Midnight - Howlin' Wolf
8. Everybody Needs Somebody To Love - Solomon Burke
9. Let's Have A Party - Wanda Jackson
10. A Whiter Shade Of Pale (Live) - King Curtis
11. That's How Strong My Love Is - Otis Redding
12. Pass The Peas - Maceo Parker
13. I Put A Spell On You - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
