THE FIRST OF MANY SORRIES

Hey guys and gals, it's me. I'm writing this post to apologize for the state of this blog. It's not what I imagined it would be, it's not what it should be, and it's not what it can be. At least not yet.

When I first decided to throw this little music page together, I figured I would be posting one playlist on Mondays with 2-3 other music or media related posts sprinkled throughout each week. Obviously this didn't happen. If you go back and look at the post history, I haven't had a non-playlist post in over a month. For this I apologize. This isn't meant to be just a website for me to dump a huge file on you every seven days. It's supposed to be a place to look for good tunes that maybe you missed, old tunes you haven't had the pleasure of hearing, and news about new or upcoming music that you'll hopefully enjoy. There's a simple explanation as to why this blog doesn't resemble that mission statement: my personal lack of time management and commitment.

BUT, my new goal is redirect some of the energy I was blessed with at birth and force it through my manatee-brain into my sloth-like body until this site is exactly what I want it to be. I'm my own biggest critic, so I'll be kicking my own ass until things get to where I want them.

Anyways, enough of my complaining. Here are a couple new tracks I've been listening to a lot recently. The first is from Half Moon Run, a Canadian trio that released their first full length album back in March via Indica Records. That album, Dark Eyes, is full of potential. There are parts of it that remind me of the first time I heard Local Natives. Half Moon uses intricate rhythmic lines combined with harmonized vocals that don't reach the complexity of Local Natives but definitely have the same spirit in mind. Pretty cool stuff. The second track is from Purity Ring, the glitchy electronic duo also based out of Canada. There is something infectious about their sound; the ultra compressed bass lines, glitchy vocal samples and drum patterns, and of course Megan James' vocals. Once you get into it, you keep coming back for more. They started releasing tracks last Summer/Fall (one of which I included on my first playlist) and their first full length album, Shrines, will be released July 24th on 4AD records. Please enjoy both and I'll be back soon with more stuff!
