This week, forget themes. Screw 'em! Who needs it? The theme of this week's playlist is "stuff I listened to recently, so deal with it. I'm out!" It's a working title. Regardless of my attitude today, you should enjoy this music as if I hadn't just yelled at you unprovoked.
There's a lot of new fresh tracks on here from bands I hope to keep hearing from. Drug Cabin just released their first short little album and it's packed full of potential. Imagine a more mellow Of Montreal and you're getting close to their sound. Y La Bamba is a new discovery for me and I'm very excited about it. They're music is sweet but haunting and generally in a language I only barely comprehend. Love it. They're playing the Great American Music Hall this weekend. Speaking of the GAMH, Tumbleweed Wanderers are having their record release show there on July 26th. I remember seeing this band when I was back in Santa Cruz last year, they're lots of fun, very talented and generally make me angry that I didn't commit more to playing music. Can't wait to see them live again.
Too much to talk about! Jeff the Brotherhood, Ty Segall Band, Bleached, and King Tuff!. They all bring so much energy and rawness to their music that I can barely stand it. It's a type of infectious energy, like you're so god damn happy that you're angry about it. Makes you want to break stuff but only cheap stuff that you were planning on breaking later anyways.
Also! Some new tracks from The Tallest Man On Earth and Sonny and the Sunsets (great stuff!) and some year-old tracks from Fishboy and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (very fun!). And so much more! I've talked to much. Go listen, dummy.
