#26 - BUT YOU WONT BLEED ME

Download playlist here.

Warning: Things are about to get funky.

A few years ago I was working at a liquor store for this guy who had an obsession with collecting movies. He had catalogs and stacks of burned DVDs. Everything from the newest crappiest Nick Cage movie to the original extended version of Freaks. Once he realized I had the slightest bit of interest in cinema, he made it his mission to show me the weirdest cult classics he had. This was my first exposure to true Blaxploitation.

If you haven't experienced the sound or feel of 70's Blaxploitation cinema, do yourself a favor and rent The Mack, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, Black Caesar, Superfly, or the original Shaft. If you don't have the chance to see any of these fabulous train-wrecks, at least listen to this playlist. If anything it will make you buy a sweet suit or a Cadillac or maybe just some pimp jewelry.

Some highlights to listen for: Curtis Mayfield, Bobby Womack, James Brown, and Billy Paul bring in that classic 70's funk sound. Big Pimp Jones, Leroy Hutson, and The Watt's 103rd bring in some instrumental jams that will make your toes curl. And don't forget the soulful jams of Lee Moses, Baby Huey and Bobby Hebb. So sweet, so fine. Give it a listen, jive turkey!
