#7: APRIL O'NEIL FOR REAL

Download playlist here!

If you spend enough time around me, you'll eventually hear me express apathy towards Reggae. I don't hate it as a genre, nor do I hate the people that listen to it, but I wouldn't say that I like it by any means.

Rocksteady, on the other hand, is a horse of a different color.

For those of you that don't know, Rocksteady is a style of music that came out of Jamaica in the 1960's after Ska and before the birth of Reggae. It's slower than Ska but uses the same "skank" beat on 2 and 4. And Rocksteady gets much of it's lyrical and melodic influence from American vocal groups of the 50's and 60's. (Think: Little Anthony and the Wailers)

Also, Rocksteady is half of the greatest henchman duo of all time, Bebop and Rocksteady. And that's awesome.

1. Rocksteady - Alton Ellis
2. The Loser - Derrick Harriot
3. Born to Love You - The Sensations
4. Conquering Ruler - Derrick Morgan
5. To Sir With Love - Dawn Penn
6. Hey There Lonely Girl - Glen Adams
7. Silent River (Runs Deep) - The Gaylettes
8. All My Tears (Come Rolling) - Alton Ellis
9. My Conversation - The Uniques
10. On The Beach - The Paragons
11. How Could I - Ken Parker
12. You're Gonna Need Me - Errol Dunkley
13. I'll Get Along Without You - The Melodians
